Social Networking (or Professional Networking or Enterprise Networking) is not a new concept to Microsoft.  SharePoint has been offering Social Networking capabilities for years and even more now, and to come.  Here’s an interesting article from “CIO Insight” entitled “Will Microsoft Become Facebook for the Enterprise?”  I think they kind of already have.  It makes sense that Microsoft would pursue such an endeavor because they are clearly already positioned in front within the Enterprise landscape and again, they have been offering Social Networking capabilities for years anyway.  Don’t believe me?  Have a look at the SharePoint My Site capabilities:
